Heartland Animal Hospital

Heartland Animal Hospital is a veterinary practice in Des Moines that cares for cats, dogs, and exotic pets such as rabbits, ferrets, pocket pets, lizards, and turtles. Its core work includes wellness exams, vaccines, dentistry, spay and neuter surgery, and diagnostics, along with allergy testing, laser therapy, and urgent care. The practice opened in 1995, and in 2024 Dr. Katherine Edel took over from her father, Dr. Robert Culver, who founded it.

Same-day appointments are offered for wellness and urgent needs whenever possible, and new clients are welcome. Preventive care packages for dogs and cats bundle exams, core vaccines, and screening tests, and financing is available for larger procedures. The practice serves owners from Des Moines and nearby communities, including West Des Moines, Urbandale, and Johnston.
