Mad Horse Theatre Company

Mad Horse Theatre Company is a professional resident theater ensemble founded in 1986 that stages cutting-edge contemporary plays alongside dramatic classics. Its mission is to produce plays that compassionately examine and illuminate the enduring aspects of the human experience, with a focus on social concern, personal transformation and community. The company has presented a long run of productions, from Angels in America to more recent new works.

Mad Horse performs in its own 50-seat black-box theater in South Portland, where actors build and rehearse each production in the same space it will be performed. Its Dark Horse Nights readings pair additional works with mainstage shows, and the theater also rents its space and rehearsal rooms. Ticket sales run through its box office, and an email list keeps subscribers informed of new productions.
