Burgers, cheese curds and a long-running downtown tap319 North Henry Street, Madison, WI

The Plaza Tavern & Grill is a downtown Madison bar and grill known for the Plazaburger, a burger topped with its signature secret sauce and first made in 1964. The menu also covers flat-top grilled sandwiches, a Wisconsin cheese curd plate, diner-style fries and homemade chili, with the bar pouring 12 rotating beers on tap alongside a full bar of classic cocktails.
The room keeps its long-running look, with booths, an extended bar and murals of Wisconsin scenery. Two pool tables, darts, vintage table hockey, slot machines and pull tabs give groups something to do. The tavern sits a block off State Street between the State Capitol and the University of Wisconsin, and the bar stays open late on Wednesday through Saturday nights.
