Community support for families and children in need on Staten Island2000 January 2000 Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation 543 Cary Ave, Staten Island, NY

The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation is a 501(c)(3) community service organization that gives financial and emotional support to individuals and families in need, with a particular focus on children. Founded in 1997 by boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas in memory of his father, a doctor who gave free care, it helps people in difficult situations who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Its programs include a food pantry, collegiate scholarships, school incentive programs, a STEAM program, a mental health program and a Christmas hygiene program.
The foundation's main fundraiser is the annual Teddy Dinner, held the Thursday before Thanksgiving, along with a golf outing and a Bowl-A-Thon. Support is run by a volunteer staff, and the foundation says nearly all donations go directly to people in need. Grant applications are handled through its contact page. The foundation is based at 543 Cary Avenue on Staten Island.
