The Peninsula Boxing Academy

The Peninsula Boxing Academy is a nonprofit boxing gym that teaches boxing to students ages 8 and up, male or female, alongside a youth education program. Its youth boxing classes are split into groups for ages 8 to 13, 14 to 17, and 18 and up, with separate training for open, intermediate and advanced boxers. The academy also sells boxing and martial arts equipment and uniforms and is licensed by the U.S. Amateur Boxing Association.

The program is built around structure and academics. Youth are accepted regardless of grade point average, but each student must pass a physical test and sign an agreement to improve their lowest grade and keep their GPA up while enrolled. Tutoring in math, reading and other subjects is offered based on individual need, and the academy's Executive Director is Otis M. Hooper, a sixth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
