Fitness East

Fitness East is a University of Iowa fitness center in Halsey Hall, the former Women's Gymnasium that was converted into a fitness center in 1999. It is smaller than the university's other recreation facilities but offers treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, stair climbers, upright and recumbent bicycles, a cable machine, weight-assisted equipment and free weights from 3 to 100 pounds. A stretching area and locker rooms are also available.

Use requires a Recreational Services membership or payment of the daily walk-in fee. The entrance is off the walkway between Halsey Hall and the IMU Parking Ramp, on the northeast corner of Madison and Jefferson streets in Iowa City, and visitors can park in the Iowa Memorial Union ramp. Anyone wanting a personalized orientation can email the Recreational Services staff, and how-to videos for the equipment are available.
