Arroyo Grappling Academy

Arroyo Grappling Academy teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu for adults and kids, along with kids' boxing and youth kickboxing and MMA classes. The grappling program also draws on judo, classic wrestling, sambo and aikido so students can take an opponent to the ground in a real-world setting. Head coach Daniel Arroyo has competed at a high level and trains students for both self-defense and tournaments.

The academy is located in the Sycamore Mall in Iowa City, about one short bus ride from campus. New visitors can sign up for a free trial class on the website, and anyone under 18 whose parent or guardian cannot sign the waiver at the first class needs to print and bring one. The gym is known for a welcoming, close-knit community.
