Van Hair Collective

Van Hair Collective is a hair salon run as a collective of independent stylists in Des Moines' East Village. The team is known for hand-crafted cuts, especially short rocker shapes, curly hair and long layers, along with balayage, rich brunette shades, vibrant reds and vivid colors. Stylists include Kristen Van Hauen, who has 30 years of experience and comes from a family of hairdressers, and Margaret McCann, an award-winning stylist who works on balayage, reds and shag cuts.

The salon serves everyone and says all are welcome. Staff speak Spanish as well as English, and one stylist is bilingual. The salon is at 322 E 6th Street in the East Village, so it works well for neighbors on that side of downtown looking for a stylist who handles bold cuts and color.
