HSCO, the Humane Society of Central Oregon, is a shelter that cares for abandoned, neglected, and abused animals and places them into adoptive homes. It also runs a lost and found reporting program, a dog licensing renewal site, and a pet food assistance program. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday, and additional times can be arranged by appointment, so call ahead. Volunteers can sign up for opportunities for youth and adults, and private or communal cremation is available for companion animals. A separate thrift store on Highway 97 in Bend takes donations and is open daily. The shelter is at 61170 S.E. 27th St. in Bend.
