Public golf course and wedding venue in Barrington1010 S Northwest Hwy, Barrington, IL
Makray Memorial Golf Club is a public 18-hole championship golf course with views of rolling hills and fairways. It began as Thunderbird Golf Course in 1962, founded by Paul Makray Sr. as a family-friendly course without membership requirements, and the club reopened under its current name after a renovation in 2005. The clubhouse keeps historic touches, including light fixtures dating from 1798 to 1930 and copper corridor lights from the New York subway.
The venue is also a wedding and event space, with outdoor ceremonies on the Patio Lawn or by the lake, and an elegant ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and a stone-wrapped veranda. Rehearsal dinners can be held at the Oak Terrace Grille on site. The club is in Barrington, just north of downtown Chicago.
