How it’s calculated
- 1
Wall area is 2 × (length + width) × height, minus about 21 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window.
- 2
We add the ceiling if you're covering it, then 10% for cuts and waste.
- 3
That total ÷ the sheet's area, rounded up, is the sheets to buy.
Before you buy
Longer 4 × 12 sheets mean fewer seams to tape and finish, but they're heavy: plan on two people.
Use moisture-resistant board in bathrooms and fire-rated (Type X) where code calls for it, like garage walls next to living space.
