How it’s calculated
- 1
Room area is length × width.
- 2
We add a waste allowance for cuts, mistakes and boards with defects: about 10% for most rooms, more for diagonal or patterned layouts.
- 3
The total divided by the coverage per box, rounded up, is the boxes to buy.
Before you buy
For an L-shaped room, split it into rectangles, add up their areas, and enter it as one long room.
Keep an unopened box after the job for future repairs.
Let laminate and vinyl acclimate in the room for a day or two before installing (check the maker's instructions).
