Tom Archer's Poor Man's Country Club

Tom Archer's Poor Man's Country Club is a supper club in the basement of the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines. The menu is hearty supper fare, with drinks poured right and music playing just beyond the dining room, in the spirit of the old ballroom days. Guests are invited to eat, order another round and stay a while.

The club is open Thursday through Saturday and on Val Air show nights, with last dinner seating at 9:30 PM. Reservations are recommended, though walk-ins are welcome. Gift cards are sold and private events can be booked. The club honors Tom Archer, a 1930s and 1940s ballroom operator who ran nine ballrooms across the Midwest.
