Coffee shop and cat lounge with adoptable cats312 5th Street, West Des Moines, IA
Coffee Cats is a coffee shop paired with a cat lounge, billed as the first cat café in Iowa. The coffee side serves locally sourced coffee from Grounds for Celebration, along with tea, smoothies, specialty drinks, Italian sodas and sweet treats. The cats in the lounge are adoptable animals from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, and they stay around 10 to 12 at a time while they wait for homes.
The coffee shop needs no reservation, so walk-ins are welcome there. Visiting the cat lounge costs a $10 cover fee for an hour, and reservations start at the top of each hour. The lounge admits up to 8 people per hour, with 6 reserved spots and 2 walk-in spots, so booking ahead is recommended for a guaranteed seat. The business is on 5th Street in historic Valley Junction in West Des Moines.
