Discount Fabrics is a family-owned fabric store that has been in business since 1973. It keeps more than 72,000 rolls in stock across about 30,000 square feet of inventory, covering upholstery and home decor fabric, silks such as dupioni, shantung, brocade, chiffon and taffeta, costume fabric for Halloween and Burning Man, apparel fabric, bridal fabric, and foam and batting. Notions and trims from brands like Dritz and Coats & Clark are also on hand.
The San Francisco store has moved, so the current location to visit is the Berkeley shop on Eastshore Highway. Prices are kept low every day, and the store posts monthly specials on its site. Staff help customers choose fabric for a particular occasion, and the shop has been featured on HGTV and works with party planners around the Bay Area.
