Children and Family Services

Children and Family Services runs Head Start and Early Head Start programs for low-income children, serving infants, toddlers, preschoolers and pregnant people. Its work covers education, health, nutrition and mental health, with a focus on the whole family. Classrooms follow the Creative Curriculum, which uses hands-on, project-based investigations, while home visits use the Parents as Teachers approach.

Families can pick a center-based option at Early Learning Centers, either part-day sessions of 3.5 to 4 hours or extended days of 6.5 to 9 hours, on a 9-month or 12-month calendar. The home-based option pairs families with a home visitor who comes weekly, plus a socialization gathering held twice a month. Services are offered at no cost to qualifying families, and parents can also take part in volunteer roles in the classroom or at home.
