Atheling Meadworks makes hand-crafted straight mead, with products including Shield Maiden, Rheda's Longing and Lyre's Song. The company has begun producing distilled spirits too, including vodka and gin, with more small-batch products planned. Its mead has won several competition medals, and Rheda's Longing was the featured ingredient in a 2024 Virginia Cocktail of the Year.
The Meadworks runs a tasting room on Campbell Avenue in Roanoke, serving a menu of small bites and cocktails. It is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 AM to 10 PM and hosts a regular lineup of events, including trivia on Thursday evenings, open game nights on Sunday and live music and comedy shows. Private bookings are also available.
