Locally sourced dinner cooked over wood fire30 p.m. - Close Other Restaurants 33 Wharf St., Portland, ME
Fore Street serves locally sourced dinner in its dining room and bar, with a menu that changes daily based on what farmers, fishermen and foragers bring in. Much of the food is cooked over an open wood-fired grill or in the wood-fired oven, including Maine oysters, rope-cultured mussels, wood-grilled hanger steak and turnspit-roasted half chicken. Gourmet magazine named the restaurant to its Top Fifty list of U.S. restaurants in 2001 and 2006.
Dinner is served nightly starting at 4:30 p.m., and reservations are taken by phone. Gift certificates are available. The restaurant sits one block from the waterfront in Portland's Old Port, and its brick and soapstone hearth is visible from most tables. The same family of restaurants also includes Street & Company, Scales Restaurant and Standard Baking Company, all in Portland.
