The Garden of Children

The Garden of Children has offered child day care in Newport News since 1974. It cares for children from four weeks old through age 12, with separate classrooms for infants, pre-toddlers, toddlers and pre-school. The toddler program follows a thematic curriculum with circle time, weekly math and science, and art, music and movement specials, while the pre-school program focuses on the social, emotional and academic skills children need for elementary school.

Staff are certified and insured, and the center has earned a Star rating through Virginia's Smart Beginnings Star Quality Initiative. Families can read the parent handbook in English or Spanish, and the center accepts state subsidy programs and offers a discount for active duty military families. Weekday hours start early in the morning and run into the evening. Pre-school enrollment includes a two-week trial period to see if the program is a good fit. The center is on Hoopes Road in Newport News.
