Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg

Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg is a nonprofit that builds affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families. Its ReStore stores sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories and building materials, usually for 30 to 90 percent below retail. The local affiliate was formed in 1985 and has built or renovated more than 210 houses in the area.

All ReStore profits go toward building affordable homes, and donors can schedule a free pickup for furniture and other items. Stores operate in Newport News, Williamsburg and Yorktown, and the Newport News store is open Monday through Saturday with Sundays closed. Shoppers can also order direct-ship cabinets. Homebuyer, home repair and Veterans Build programs serve families in Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg and several surrounding counties.
