State Street Brats

State Street Brats is a downtown Madison sports tavern known for its red and white bratwursts on German sausage buns, along with burgers, wings and Wisconsin cheese curds. It has been serving on State Street since 1953 and has grown into a well-known stop for University of Wisconsin game days, with a bar menu of Wisconsin beers on tap and one-liter steins to go.

The kitchen is open daily from late morning until 2 AM, and the bar carries game-day specials. There is an outdoor patio on State Street that is heated in cold weather, an upstairs room for private parties, and gift cards. The restaurant also ships its signature brats nationwide and caters on-site with a food truck.
