The story

Scenic Route Bakery is a bakery and café in the East Village of Des Moines, serving pastries, sweets and lunch alongside Tugboat coffee and espresso drinks. The founder, Katy Nelson, started the business with a father and daughter team about a decade ago with a focus on pastry and customer service.

Pastries and whole bean coffee can be ordered online for pickup in store or curbside, or for delivery. The shop opens at 7 a.m. and lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and the espresso bar is busiest during those hours. The bakery is at 350 East Locust Street, Suite 104.
