Flying Mango

Flying Mango serves Southern, barbecue and Cajun-Creole food with a bit of Caribbean flair, best known for its 24-hour smoked beef brisket and Memphis-style ribs. The menu also runs to Cajun shrimp and catfish, shrimp and grits, sandwiches, salads and cornbread with cinnamon honey butter. It began as catering and farmers' markets before becoming a neighborhood restaurant, and it has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.

Dinner is the main service, with dine-in, takeout and delivery, plus online ordering and reservations through OpenTable. Catering is available for groups. The restaurant is on Hickman Road in Beaverdale, Des Moines, and the Wednesday through Saturday evening schedule is worth checking before a visit.
