Fancy Plants Café

Fancy Plants Café is a 100% vegan café in East Lakeview known for its coffee, pastries and savory breakfast items. The coffee comes from Big Shoulders and Dark Matter, with Rishi teas on the side, and the pastries are house made, with gluten-free options from Mindful Baking. The savory menu changes almost daily, but breakfast sandwiches on Just Egg patties, breakfast burritos, and New York bagels with cashew cream cheese and carrot lox often appear, along with soups, salads, sandwiches and the Beet Confit Reuben.

Chef and owner Kevin Schuder, who has cooked professionally for about 15 years, also runs Fancy Plants Kitchen and the catering side of the business. The café is open every day through the afternoon, and takeout and grab-and-go food are part of the menu, so it works well for a quick order to take home. Coffee and pastries are the most common reasons to stop in.
