Salvadoran, Guatemalan and Mexican dishes in Allston254 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA

Taqueria El Carrizal serves Salvadoran, Guatemalan and Mexican food under one roof, and the Salvadoran side gets the most attention. Its pupusas, thick corn tortillas filled with cheese, pork, beans, chicken or loroco flower buds, were singled out in a 2009 Boston Globe Magazine review, and the Salvadoran combination pairs one with an enchilada and a tamal. The menu also covers tacos, fajitas, burritos, torta sandwiches, a Colombian-style plate of steak, pork rinds and plantains, and seafood dishes such as garlic shrimp.
Most plates come with rice, beans and tortillas. There is a separate breakfast menu with typical plates and breakfast burritos, and the bar serves margaritas and sangria along with beer and wine. Groups of five or more have gratuity added to the bill, and diners are asked to tell their server about any food allergies before ordering. The restaurant is in Allston.
