New Salem Counseling

New Salem Counseling in Winston-Salem is a church-based nonprofit that offers biblical, pastoral, and licensed counseling for individuals, couples, and families. Its counselors take a gospel-centered approach, with the aim of seeing marriages restored and families strengthened. Free support groups cover grief, divorce, dementia caregiving, and anxiety, and the ministry also runs classes and workshops on relationship and parenting topics.

Counseling falls into two tracks. Pastoral and biblical counselors hold master's degrees but are not licensed, and they are supported by donations. Licensed clinical counselors handle mental health concerns, charge a set session fee, and some accept health insurance. Graduate student interns also see clients under supervision at a lower rate. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice carry a fee, and members of host Calvary Baptist Church get a discount on sessions.
