Carnivorous Plant Nursery

Carnivorous Plant Nursery sells carnivorous plants from around the world, including Venus flytraps, sundews, pitcher plants, butterworts and bog orchids, along with seeds, growing supplies and soils. The nursery also makes classroom and teaching materials built around carnivorous plants, and its owner, Michael Szesze, is a retired science teacher who has spent decades working with students and teachers.

Visits are by appointment only, and families and small groups are welcome to see the greenhouses and the outdoor native plant beds, which are at their best in May and June. The outdoor beds are covered from November through March or April, and there are no public restrooms. The nursery is on John Cline Road in Smithsburg, and the owner also gives talks and workshops for garden clubs and other groups for a speaker fee.
