Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service, known locally as DATS, is a private, non-profit outpatient agency offering individual, group and family counseling for substance abuse and addiction. Its programs include an Intensive Outpatient Program that meets ASAM criteria, traditional outpatient counseling, an adolescent program, and Certified Recovery Specialists who work with clients on a peer-to-peer basis. The agency also offers co-occurring disorder care, medically assisted treatment referrals, and on-site school assessments in Lackawanna County.

Services are available in person or by telehealth. DATS says most major commercial and public insurance plans cover its services, and private payment is arranged on a sliding fee scale, with no one turned away for inability to pay. The agency is funded through a mix of grants, Medical Assistance, insurance and donations and is governed by a volunteer board. It is located on Wyoming Avenue in Scranton.
