Samaritan House

Samaritan House is a nonprofit working for 50 years to lift people out of poverty across San Mateo County. Its core programs include food services, health and dental care, case management, housing and shelter, children's programs and financial empowerment. The Worker Resource Center offers a safe place where workers, skilled in carpentry, construction, driving, moving, painting and plumbing, can seek work from local employers.

Employers can come to the office during open hours when they need a worker, or call to request someone they have hired before. The center is free for workers and employers, and it is not an employment agency. Work arranged through the center pays at least $20 an hour, or $21 and up for hard or skilled labor, with a $60 minimum for jobs of three hours or less. Food, medical and counseling services start with a phone appointment, and all services are offered in English and Spanish.
