Learning Home Volunteers

Learning Home Volunteers is a nonprofit that works to close the kindergarten-readiness gap for low-income children. Rather than teaching children directly, it trains and equips their parents to lead play-based learning at home, covering language, numeracy, and letter, color and shape recognition.

The program is free for low-income families with children from 18 months to 5 years old in San Mateo County. Learning boxes with activities and books are brought to the family's home every three weeks, and families receive training and support for up to three years. Learning Home Volunteers is a 501(c)(3) based at 633 Quarry Rd. in San Carlos, and it runs ongoing training for volunteers through online sessions and drop-in sessions.
