Onggi

Onggi is a fermentation market, bakery and cafe in Portland, Maine, selling everyday ferments and foods from its shop and online. The shop carries items such as miso, soy sauces, vinegars, hot sauces, kimchi, pickles and preserved lemons, along with teas, matcha and fermentation crocks and weights. The cafe serves fermentation-forward pastries, including sourdough chocolate chip cookies, plus matcha, hojicha and coffee.

Pastries are sold from opening until they sell out, and they can be pre-ordered. Some of the fermented goods can be shipped or picked up locally through the online shop. The store is at 131 Washington Avenue in Portland, and the shop and cafe keep Wednesday through Monday hours, closed on Tuesdays.
