Katie Made Bakery

Katie Made Bakery turns out cakes, pies, cookies, bars and pastries made from scratch, with an emphasis on quality ingredients rather than volume. The cafe side serves breakfast and lunch, with hand-crafted sandwiches made daily from house-roasted meats and homemade sauces, plus salads, a full coffee bar, and juices, sodas and tea. Sisters Katie and Jenny Capron run the business, which dates to 2000 and has supplied desserts to Portland-area restaurants, caterers and coffee houses.

Customers can eat inside, sit outside or take orders to go. The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday in the morning and early afternoon and closed Monday and Tuesday. It sits on Congress Street halfway up Munjoy Hill, near the Portland Observatory, so it is an easy stop for a cake or a sandwich lunch on the way up the hill.
