Empire Chinese Kitchen

Empire Chinese Kitchen specializes in dim sum, the Chinese brunch style built around dumplings and small savory dishes meant to be shared family-style. Its dumplings are made by hand daily, from soup dumplings and potstickers to shrimp har gow and chive shiitake dumplings. The menu also includes steamed and pan-fried buns, large plates such as orange beef and bacon fried rice, and modern takes on traditional Chinese soul food built on locally sourced ingredients.

The restaurant occupies the site of Portland's first deluxe Chinese restaurant, The Empire, which operated from 1916 to 1953. It is walk-ins only with no reservations, and takeout can be ordered online for pickup. Holiday takeout orders must be placed the same day, and takeout orders over $300 carry a 10% service charge. The restaurant is at 575 Congress St. in Portland.
