La Farine

La Farine is a retail bakery on College Avenue in Rockridge, Oakland, and one of several East Bay shops under the same name. Cakes larger than its regular 8-inch size are made to order, and the bakery also takes special orders for minimum quantities of certain items.

Orders generally need at least 48 hours' notice, and oversize cakes need 72 hours. Orders are placed by phone, and payment is accepted by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, local checks with a current ID, and cash. The shop is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., but it closes for a few holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The bakery does not sell raw ingredients like flour or yeast, though staff will refer home bakers to suppliers and answer baking questions.
