Reclaimed building materials and recycled paint in New Orleans2831 Marais St., New Orleans, LA

The Green Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs a donation-based salvage store selling used and new building materials, a paint recycling program, and free environmental education for schoolchildren and residents. The salvage store carries doors, windows, lumber, light fixtures, cabinets, sinks, tubs, flooring and tile, with items typically priced around 30 to 50 percent of retail value. Shoppers can find recycled paint there too.
The store is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2831 Marais Street, near St. Claude Avenue and Press Street in the St. Roch area. All sales are final and items are sold as is, so buyers should take their purchases the same day. Cash and major credit cards are accepted, and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Items may contain lead paint or asbestos.
