Freret Hardware

Freret Hardware is an old-style hardware store that has served New Orleans since 1938, stocking paint, hand and power tools, fasteners, electrical and plumbing parts, lawn and garden supplies and housewares. The store carries more than 70,000 items, including specialty pieces that are hard to find elsewhere, and it is known for its computerized paint color matching and paint mixing.

Customers can bring in glass for cutting, have keys cut, get pipes cut and threaded, and exchange empty propane tanks for filled Blue Rhino cylinders. If an item is not on the shelf, the staff can order it. The store offers curbside service, and it sits at the corner of Freret Street between Soniat and Valmont streets. Its hours are weekday mornings and afternoons, with shorter Saturday hours and Sunday closed.
