Salvadoran pupusas and Latin cafe fare with a full vegan menu8120 Hampson Street, New Orleans, LA

La Macarena is a family-run Salvadoran and Latin American cafe known for its made-to-order pupusas, along with sizzling carne asada, seafood dishes and a breakfast and brunch menu. The owners say the food is rooted in El Salvador's street food and traditional family cooking, with cheeses, horchata and spices brought back from regular trips to El Salvador. The restaurant has been open since 2003 and was named the only Latin restaurant on the Times-Picayune's Top 100 Restaurants to Eat in New Orleans list.
The menu added a full vegan and vegetarian section in 2025 that also accommodates gluten-free diets, and La Macarena was recognized as Best Mex Vegan in the 2024 New Orleans Vegan Chef Challenge. Diners can expect a small colorful house in the River Bend area at 8120 Hampson Street, and the restaurant accepts all cards.
