Louisiana catfish, Gulf seafood and Southern plates4500 Freret Street, New Orleans, LA

High Hat Cafe is a casual neighborhood spot serving food from Louisiana and the wider South. Catfish is the star of the menu, with Smoked Roasted Chicken, BBQ Gulf Shrimp, Slow Roasted Pork and Fresh Gulf Fish close behind. The kitchen uses U.S. farm-raised catfish and sources its shrimp from local waters, and the menu covers poboys, burgers, hot plates, salads and a range of Southern sides.
The cafe has a full bar with a wine list, local draft beers and craft cocktails. Reservations are not taken, so walking in is the way to go. It sits on the corner of Freret and Jena in the old Long's Bakery building, one block Uptown from Napoleon, and is open daily from 11 to 9.
