Grandma's House is a family-owned child care group that has operated since 1983, with four centers in Wauwatosa, Brookfield and Hartland. Its play-based programs cover infants and toddlers, two-year-olds, preschool, kindergarten, school-age care and summer, for children from six weeks to 11 years old. Lunches and snacks are cooked on site each day from the founder's recipes, and every hot lunch comes with milk and whole grain bread.
Teachers are required to hold at least an associate degree in early childhood education, and the owner and director both spend time in the classrooms. The centers are NAEYC accredited and carry a 5-Star rating from Wisconsin's YoungStar program. The group does not run fundraisers, offers a generous vacation policy and does not charge for days a center is closed. Parent groups at each center help plan menus and activities.
