20 Ton Studios

20 Ton Studios is a collective of multi-disciplinary artists working side by side in a former electric substation on the north side of Milwaukee. The artists include woodworkers, illustrators, sculptors, metalworkers and circus performers, and the collective is structured to help each member work as a full-time artist. Members' work covers mediums from mixed media and metalwork to performance.

The building takes its name from a 20-ton overhead crane installed in 1911 that still sits near the front entrance, and a working 2-ton crane runs on the same rails. The building was constructed in 1911 by the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company and was used for storage for years before the artists bought it in 2016. The studio is at 2000 W North Ave in Milwaukee.
