Safai Coffee

Safai Coffee roasts handcrafted, direct trade coffee with profiles that run from floral and bright to bold and smooth. Master Roaster Mike Safai builds relationships directly with coffee farmers and gives feedback on the growing conditions and flavors he prefers. The business started in 1998 as a 72 square foot drive-thru kiosk in Louisville and now sells its coffee to groceries and hotels.

Most of the work is wholesale, supplying coffee shops, restaurants, offices and hotels with office and food service coffee programs. Bags are sold in grocery stores such as Kroger and Whole Foods, and the coffee is served in hotels across the US, the Caribbean and Bora Bora. Mike and Medora Safai run the SAFAI Foundation, which supports coffee-growing communities. The roastery is on East Kentucky Street in Louisville.
