Maxwell's House of Books

Maxwell's House of Books is a used bookstore in the La Mesa Village with a broad, ever-changing selection, from mysteries and romance to science, philosophy, poetry and a large children's section. Owner Craig Maxwell grew up around his grandfather's bookstore, and the shop carries signed author copies and rare finds alongside everyday paperbacks, with prices kept low. The Huffington Post ranked it one of the Top 50 Indie Bookstores in 2017.

Shoppers can drop in, and the sales staff will help find a title that fits their budget. The shop also buys books and accepts donations, and it ships orders to customers' doors. Bulk purchase discounts are available on request. The store sits in the downtown village, the main business district of La Mesa.
