Piedmont Municipal Power Agency (PMPA)

Piedmont Municipal Power Agency is a joint action agency formed by ten municipal electric utilities in northwest South Carolina. It supplies wholesale electricity to those member utilities, mainly through a 25 percent ownership interest in Unit 2 of the Catawba Nuclear Station in York County. The agency also provides shared services such as IT support, web hosting, legal help and load forecasting.

Members are local city utilities that resell power to homes and businesses, so most residents will not deal with the agency directly. PMPA also offers discounted economic development rates to members serving qualifying customers and takes part in the Upstate Alliance. The office is in Greer, and questions can be sent by phone, fax, email or mail.
