Royal River Natural Foods is a community market selling organic and local Maine-grown produce, meats, dairy, groceries, supplements and wine and beer. The store works with local farmers and artisans and carries products from over 200 Maine vendors. Its deli case offers housemade cookies, salads, soups, hot sandwiches, burritos and frozen meals.
The market opened in 1994 as a small shop in Yarmouth and moved to its current Route 1 location in Freeport in 1999. Hours are Monday through Saturday 8am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm. Turkey orders for Thanksgiving can be placed in store or by phone, and the staff of over 20 people includes many longtime employees.
