Hughes Nursery

Hughes Nursery & Landscaping is a family business that raises its own plants from saplings and then handles the landscaping work that establishes them in the ground. Growing and planting in-house gives the family control over the full process, from the stock they start with to the final installation. The Hughes family's nursery roots go back to William John Hughes, who started Cedar Rapids Nursery Company in 1908, and the present owners are fourth-generation nurserymen who studied horticulture at Iowa State University.

Tom and John Hughes run the business day to day, and the office is on Nursery Road in southwest Cedar Rapids. Customers request an estimate by phone or email, and office visits are by appointment only. Neighbors who want to see the family's history can find a museum display about the earlier Hughes nurseries on the website.
