The German Cafe has served authentic German cuisine since 1985, working from family recipes brought over from Germany. Its menu is prepared from scratch, and it is known for its old-world dishes, German beer and a wine list that includes Riesling and Cabernet Franc.
The restaurant sits in a renovated cotton warehouse from about 1860 in Wilmington's historic Cotton Exchange, with exposed beams and old brickwork. It is open Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday afternoons, is closed Mondays, and takes reservations for parties by phone. Thursdays bring half-price bottles of wine, and there is a newer bar.
