Gelarto

Gelarto is a gelateria on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, known for more than 40 flavors of Italian gelato, including vegan, dairy-free and fat-free options. The menu also includes gelato cakes sized to serve 2 to 10 people, gelato shakes, fresh fruit smoothies, espresso drinks and imported European candies such as Crunchie, Flake and Smarties. The gelato is made in Turin, Italy, using fresh whole fruit and milk from the family's own herd.

The shop is in the 100-year-old JW Brooks Warehouse Building, a short walk from the Riverwalk, which makes it a easy stop before or after a stroll along the water. Gelato cakes are made to order with at least three days' notice, so call ahead to reserve one. Gift cards and a loyalty program are available. Flavor availability varies, and the shop is open seven days a week.
