Public Safety

Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control is the county's animal shelter and control agency, run under the Public Safety Department. It shelters stray and surrendered animals, places adoptable dogs and cats, and takes lost and found pet reports, animal cruelty complaints and barking dog reports.

Rabies vaccines cost $15 and need no appointment, offered every day at posted times. Surrendering an owned pet is by appointment only, and the animal must be current on vaccines. The main shelter is on Belvedere Road west of the Florida Turnpike, and a Belle Glade/Pahokee resident clinic keeps limited hours on State Road 715. Animal viewing areas are open to the public during posted hours and are closed on government holidays.
