Narrated steam and diesel train rides up the Comstock166 F Street, Virginia City, NV

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad runs narrated scenic train rides from Virginia City, Nevada, up the Comstock to Gold Hill and back, aboard steam engines and heritage diesel locomotives. The trip passes old mine ruins and high-desert scenery, and wild horses sometimes run alongside the tracks. Seasonal specials include Halloween graveyard rides, a Candy Cane Express and holiday light trains that visit Santa's Village.
Rides run seven times a day, seven days a week, from the last week of May through October, with holiday trains in November and December. Tickets are sold online. Trains leave from the original 1870 depot at 166 F Street in Virginia City, and on most departures you can step off in Gold Hill and catch a later train back the same day. The railroad also offers a guided railbike trip through the Carson River Canyon and rents its equipment and depots for film and photo projects.
