American Lake Veterans Golf Course

American Lake Veterans Golf Course is an 18-hole course near Tacoma, designed by Jack Nicklaus and recognized as a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in 2024. The course is built and run by volunteers as a nonprofit, with the goal of giving Veterans a place to recreate, compete and connect, and many players come for the rehabilitation and camaraderie as much as the golf.

The course has run without government funding since 1995, and green fees are kept low to keep it open to Veterans. It has an accessible design, adaptive carts, a rehabilitation and learning center, and free lessons. Its signature event is the Ken Still Memorial Tournament, a charity shotgun start benefiting local Veterans. The course sits in SW Lakewood.
